Cubs 3, Braves 0

ESPN.com - MLB - Box Score - Cubs at Braves

Ugh. The Braves got four-hit by some kid and his neverending diet of curveballs. As it was, it spoiled the good Redman start. I say "the", because I have no confidence in it repeating. Redman allowed solo homers in the fourth and the sixth but little else until he was over 100 pitches, and got into the eighth, very necessary considering the stress on the bullpen. It maybe would have been better to pull him after seven, but it really didn't matter, as the Braves were hopeless at the plate.

KJ had another good night, going 2-3 with a walk and the team's only extra-base hit, a double off the wall. Francoeur and Pena had the other hits, and Andruw and Wilson had walks. That was it. For a good portion of the game, the team seemed mostly interested in getting on the plane to New York.

Sorry for the late recap, my internet was down. It never rains but...

Oh, and he didn't play, but Langerhans must be destroyed.

I think that's a bit unfair to the Braves. Hill was 2-0 with an ERA below 1 coming in and is considered a top prospect. I don't think there is any disgrace in losing to him--now Jason Bergmann, that's a different story.

I think Redman showed that he is capable of being at least an average starter. It's not as if he has never had any success in the majors. You can't really expect much more from the back of the rotation these days.

Yeah, Hill is very good. He's actually the one good pitcher I have in my fantasy league, but anyway...

Coming into the series, I figured we'd win the Zambrano game but lose to Hill ('cuz we had Redman). So I'm predicting a sweep of the Mets. Make it happen!

its gonna sound rediculous, but why cant they teach mccann first next year and put salty at C

McCann is better defensively and has already proven himself. If they move either it should be Salty, and I think it should be very soon.

John Sickels compares Jarrod Saltalamacchia to Jeff Clement. It's close, but Salty comes out ahead. Hot damn!

Apparently, what's up with Willy Aybar is that he's "battling a substance abuse problem." At least, that's what his agent says.

We'll see.

McCann is better defensively ...

McCann is a wonderful hitter, but he is fundamentally flawed as a fielder. He doesn't shift his weight to block pitches, but instead reaches, including reaching to his right with a backhand. His throwing arm is somewhat below average with his CS% in the bottom quartile last year.

That being said, he is a great, great player in that he is an acceptable defender while being a plus hitter at a traditionally challenging position. I'd move him to another position for Salty only if Salty were a significantly better fielder, something on which I have an open mind.

While McCann may not be a top-flight defender, he calls a good game, and that's at least as important. Moreover, his defense might improve over time, so I'm really in no rush to move him.
