I actually just read somewhere that the Rockies have only hit 3 homeruns in 338 ABs at home this year. They are going to beat their previously low of 9 for April set last year (knock on wood!). Looks pretty good to keep the long ball down (assuming Redman doesn't find a way to get to the mound in the series).
Hopefully the humidor is working. Chucky is a flyball pitcher. But I think he is going to have a bounce-back outing after suffering a let-up in his previous two. Go Chucky...
At home so far this year, the Rox and their opponents have scored 97 runs in 10 games (Rox 42, opponents 55). On the Road, the Rox and their opponents have scored 84 runs in 12 games (Rox 41, opponents 43). That totals 181 runs in 22 Rockies games, or 8.22 per game. So we get a raw park factor of 9.7 / 8.22 = 1.18, a bit higher than the Humidor Era average.
Mind you, most of their road games have been in pitchers' parks- LA, San Diego, and Shea, with only Arizona as a decent hitters' park. So that probably overstates the park factor just a tad.
Best guess: the humidor is still there, and Chuckie's gonna need it.
Yall see this story? Y'know, I gotta say, I kinda enjoy it. Sweet that it helps bust the 'roiders, but even sweeter that the dude is a Mets employee. I'm probably a bad person though.
Please tell me that "the Lemmer" (is he contractually obligated to be referred to exclusively as the Lemmer because they NEVER use his real name)is not part of the future of Braves radio.
Unless, of course, he has like four at-bats in that situation. But he is in the middle of their lineup, so it's not possible that the Rockies have been doing that bad offensively, is it? I mean, they went double digits on the Mets the other day.
The baby Braves are having a pretty good night. For Rome, Jordan Shafer, a third rounder from a few years ago, hit his fourth homer and is currently hitting over .350.
Matt Harrison threw six shutout innings and Brandon Jones (not free yet) went deep twice. Lerew threw seven innings without allowing an earned run and Escobar had two hits and two rbi's.
Just wondering, does Brandon Jones play leftfield or centerfield in the minor? I know he can play both, but I believe he mostly plays leftfield in the minor...
...I am thinking more of one Jones replacing another Jones...
Wow, inducing a ground ball for once. Seriously, if he's pitching for them the way he did for us, the degree to which he will get shelled in that ballpark is absolutely mind-boggling.
In addition to Paronto, I am hoping that we get Startup or Stockman up from Richmond--the only way Yates is useful is to eat innings when it no longer matters.
I really think losing Pat Corrales is killing this team. Last year he always put the defense right where they needed to be. I remember reading Horacio Ramirez praising him for that late in the season.
Now he's gone and whoever replaced him sucks. The Braves play for a pull, it's hit up the middle. They play up the middle, the ball it hit in the gap. They shift, the ball is hit where the third baseman would normally be. Langerhans move towards center, the ball is pulled down the leftfield line.
Wilson is having a good night. Seriously, I don't have much concern over Diaz, Wilson, and Thorman. Langy is actually the only one who is hopeless in my opinion.
That was kind of inexplicable. I don't think he needed work, really. Unless he does, I agree...using him when it's not a save (or a hold) situation really shouldn't be done.
Ok, Bobby, you are not using your best relievers in save situation, and you are using your best relievers with a five-run lead. I don't think I will ever understand the old man.
I don't think I have said enough, don't bring in closers in non-save situation. They are just not wired for that. Yes, closers like Wickman are not wired for base-loaded with no-out situtation either.
Rob, Bobby sucks in handling relievers. He has proved that so many times in the past 15 years. He is still a great manager though, but his in-game decisions suck, especially in how he uses his relievers.
I figured Bobby was just trying out the 7-8-9 roles and it just got away from Wick at the end. All in all, a great game for us. 17 hits! Whoo! I'll take singles sprinkled around the ballpark all night long.
Tony LaRussa almost got into a fight with Bernie Miklasz of the St.Louis Post dispatch. Apparently there was a cheap shot about the Cubs in today's paper and LaRussa didn't want to be associated with the comment and refused to talk with the Post Dispatch and Miklasz wouldn't drop it and finally they got into each other's faces and right before the video ended, Miklasz said "do you got a problem with me?!"
I have no idea what was said, I didn't get the paper this morning and the article has been removed from the site.

And for my next trick, I'm gonna see if I can make some good fake blood and get a million dollars.
If they've gotten the homers under control, I wouldn't mind a high-average, high-run context with lots of doubles and triples. Sounds fun.
I just always wish we had last at-bats in that place.

Washington leads the steM 3-2 after 5 1/2 innings, on a HR by Austin Kearns.
Please tell me that "the Lemmer" (is he contractually obligated to be referred to exclusively as the Lemmer because they NEVER use his real name)is not part of the future of Braves radio.
the lemmer likes it when guys swing the bat aggressively.
AWESOME!!! IT'S JUST ME. *TAKES OFF PANTS*
I hate double plays...
It is puzzling to me how it is even possible for someone to be hitting .714 with two outs/RISP.
Unless, of course, he has like four at-bats in that situation. But he is in the middle of their lineup, so it's not possible that the Rockies have been doing that bad offensively, is it? I mean, they went double digits on the Mets the other day.
Seven hits in three innings and no runs? It's going to be one of those games. And I hate those games.
Good news, everyone: Nationals beat the steM 4-3.
Jeff Francis is looking a lot like a mid-90s Tom Glavine, at the moment. I don't think he's gotten the ball middle-of-the-plate/in yet.
Also, it appears that the Rockies are the ultimate suck-ups to "the children." A
6 p.m. local start time for tomorrow? Sup wit that?
I don't want anyone to think that I am apostate from the Church of McCann, but I love KJ.
I love Kelly.
Finally, some runs! Thanks, KJ and Renty!
And Willy Taveras' arm makes Juan Pierre look like Roberto Clemente.
It's about time. 10 hits and 2 runs to show for it. We better pour it on, just to avoid a game that shapes up like the previous one.
Yeah, that throw was atrocious.
Wow Mac, that's a real compliment to Pierre. I never thought Pierre can throw AT ALL.
Nice play Matt!!!
Making Langerhans look even more useless than he already looks.
The baby Braves are having a pretty good night. For Rome, Jordan Shafer, a third rounder from a few years ago, hit his fourth homer and is currently hitting over .350.
Anonymous, are you Alex?
Matt Harrison threw six shutout innings and Brandon Jones (not free yet) went deep twice. Lerew threw seven innings without allowing an earned run and Escobar had two hits and two rbi's.
Is it just me, or is this game going at a pretty quick pace?
It's for "the children", Dustin.
Chucky is pitching a damn good game. This should erase some of the doubt on him recently. Honestly, I never have any doubt on the kid.
WILSON! HE HAS CREATED A RUN!
Actually I think Gameday is working quick for a change.
Just wondering, does Brandon Jones play leftfield or centerfield in the minor? I know he can play both, but I believe he mostly plays leftfield in the minor...
...I am thinking more of one Jones replacing another Jones...
...WILSON FINALLY!!!
KJ reaches base three times tonight already...how far higher can his OBP go?
Brandon plays left for Mississippi but I think he played a little in center last year.
ANDRUW!
Nice, six runs is more like it considering how many hits they are having tonight!!!
The altitude helped Frenchy there.
Frenchy!
Sweet!!! Tom Martin!!!
Wow, Tom Martin...I never thought I would ever see that guy ever again...
Wow, inducing a ground ball for once. Seriously, if he's pitching for them the way he did for us, the degree to which he will get shelled in that ballpark is absolutely mind-boggling.
The Red Sox hitters have absolutely no fear in facing Marino. They absolutely kill him since that Game 4.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH CHUCKY!!!
I would have caught that.
Someone please call the bullpen!
Ok, seriously, what's wrong with Chucky...
Tonight Bobby is Captain Hook...I wish that we had Paronto for situations like this. When will he be back?
Something has gotta be wrong with Mariano. His era is Redmanesque.
Kali--again proving that he is not such a great pitcher under pressure....
I don't think I am the only one who misses Furcal's defense...
Kali strikes again.
These weak hits up the middle are getting very annoying.
Stephen, I miss Paronto BIG TIME.
Damn Yates--this is beginning to feel like 2006.
Only Bobby on this planet believes in Kali...
...can we get him out?
Mariano Rivera has yet to record a save this year.
Maybe the magic wore off finally.
Furcal's OPS is under .500
WOW!!! FINALLY AN OUT!!!
I miss Furcal's defense big time. I am sure the pitchers are as well...
Finally!!
In addition to Paronto, I am hoping that we get Startup or Stockman up from Richmond--the only way Yates is useful is to eat innings when it no longer matters.
They said on TV that Paronto should be back when his stint on the DL expires.
It's getting old.
That was kind of a stupid way to put that.
What I meant was he shouldn't have to stay on the DL more than his alloted 15 days.
In other news, I found it in the last place I looked.
Wilson is having a good night. Seriously, I don't have much concern over Diaz, Wilson, and Thorman. Langy is actually the only one who is hopeless in my opinion.
Gonzo is coming in next...
I love Kelly Johnson. What an AB.
ok, I must admit I love everything about Edgar's hitting.
Renty!
When KJ is on, he is a force....otherwise, HoRam is pitching against the Royals as we speak...
Wow, HoRo is having three Ks in four innings, that's amazing.
Chipper!!!
Chipper!!
NICE!!! Five runs lead is beautiful.
Nice, Gonzo is looking good tonight. Velocity is good, control is good...I think he is definitely healthy.
Bobby, please don't use Soriano with less than a three runs lead, he can not handle a wide lead...
Not the best start to the 8th...
KC--I fear that you are right--have to hope that Soriano recognizes that in Coors Field this is still not a massive lead....
Nice!!! Stephen, that's why I think Soriano will be a GREAT closer.
DP--KJ is getting it done....
Isn't it nice to have a real bullpen again...
That was kind of inexplicable. I don't think he needed work, really. Unless he does, I agree...using him when it's not a save (or a hold) situation really shouldn't be done.
Hey!!! He made OK contact that time!!!
Langy's BA drops lower!!! How far lower can it gets?!
If Langerhans can't get a hit in Coors, then maybe we should Blanco or Brandon Jones....
Bobby is not taking any chance tonight...why not two nights ago!!!
Wickmania! Wheres the Banner?
Why is Wickman in in a 5 run lead? Paging Steve Colyer...
God, how many geriatrics do they have on that team? They just keep trotting them out. Finley, Martin and now John Mabry.
Wow, Reitsma is relieving HoRo for Seattle...wonder if the Mariners will trade Putz to us for Kali?!
Maybe the Mariners will drag up Ken Ray....
bases loaded for Atkins...not good.
Damnit!
Ok, Bobby, you are not using your best relievers in save situation, and you are using your best relievers with a five-run lead. I don't think I will ever understand the old man.
This is really stupid.
you have to be kidding me. this is rediculous!
WICKMANIA is looking Kolbous
Damn!! We have already one 9th inning collapse this week....
You all are seeing the WORST of Bobby in the last two games. Totally stupid.
You...must...be...kidding...
Ah, the curse of Dan Kolb strikes again.
I don't think I have said enough, don't bring in closers in non-save situation. They are just not wired for that. Yes, closers like Wickman are not wired for base-loaded with no-out situtation either.
Wickman is not Kolb, Bobby is just using him at the wrong situations. Bobby needs to know his relievers better.
Helton is 2/3 against Colyer...
Why didn't Colyer start the inning? I think I remember somebody saying something about that...
If the Braves lose tonight's game, I will hate Bobby all over again.
de ja vu?
I think ball three was a strike!
Three pitchers in the ninth...that's just sad.
Since when has Bobby become Tony LaRussa? Man his bullpen handling is criminal...
This is embarassing.
You gotta make Helton hit. The worst he can do is tie it. Walking him, especially with that awful pitch, is a crime.
So much for Colyer--I have more confidence in Moylan, which is not saying much. This game is beginning to remind me of 2006....
Rob, Bobby sucks in handling relievers. He has proved that so many times in the past 15 years. He is still a great manager though, but his in-game decisions suck, especially in how he uses his relievers.
COME ON PETER MOYLAN! Please don't blow this.
Bobby really needs to pay attention as to when he uses Wickman. In the last two games, he has shown he has no clue.
My heart just threw up in my stomach.
BRAVES WIN!!!
I LOVE YOU FRENCHY, THANK YOU!
YES!!!!!
Wow. Go Braves.
Thank you Frenchy, you saved me from another heart attack...
Frenchy!!
First place!
Bobby sucks.
Truth be told Frenchy should have caught the one earlier also.
for that, i think i will forgive frenchy for a few of those times he acted stupid at the plate...
but only a few of them
Moylan: Australian for "clutch"
ok. let's hope the jitters are over with this one (fat chance).
I hardly call a potential game winning blast to the wall clutch.

Whew! Jesus Christ on a crutch! Can we not have anymore of the last-inning pitching mishaps for awhile?
Can we call a Moylan save a dingo?
-URLHIX
Moylan better go kiss the humidor
You can say that again Petros.
Is that Moylan's first major-league save BTW?
Yes it was.
that was ugly but i'll take it
Dingo!
yeah, his first save in hopefully his last save opportunity
I figured Bobby was just trying out the 7-8-9 roles and it just got away from Wick at the end. All in all, a great game for us. 17 hits! Whoo! I'll take singles sprinkled around the ballpark all night long.
