Game Thread: April 24, Braves at Marlins
No news on the new site front. I'm hoping to have something in the next couple of days. Meanwhile, if you just hate Blogger, I can set up a new auxiliary backup at WordPress.com, which would at least have the familiar settings.
Today's Game Thread Video is dedicated to Ryan Langerhans' extra base hit total, because it doesn't exist either! Sorry, I'm on a slow connection here.

This is very funny, and actually quite on point.

Let's try again..
ah hell. Figure it out
So I'm confused, is the old site (http://www.bravesbeat.com/bravesjournal/) totally gone now? I mean, is this site just temporary or do I need to change my bookmarks?
This comment has been removed by the author.
That site is being replaced with a new site, which I think will have a basic bravesjournal.com URL. Until that's ready, this is the temporary site so I won't be down for any length of time.
If you have a bookmark on your computer, change it to http://bravesjournal.com. Until the new site is ready that will forward to wherever the active site is.
Thanks for clearing that up Mac.
Call me a creature of habit, but I much prefer to old familiar settings. Looking forward to seeing those again.
Not to bring this up again, but at metsblog.com, there is a link to an article lobbying for Atlanta to trade for Cliff Floyd. I don't think this accomplishes much as Floyd is prone to injury, but he'd probably put up better numbers on the DL than Langerhans would actually playing. I still like Murton.
You are probably wondering why I was at metsblog.com. I wanted to see how bad they felt after we beat up on them this weekend, and today was the first chance I had to do so.
Let's go Mark Redman? I'm scared.
I have no problem with Cliff Floyd per se, but what are you willing to trade to get him, seems to be the unstated part of the equation. Surely CHI could get more than we'd give someplace.
i really don't see the point in trading for Floyd. The moves reek of desperation and reminds me of the B.J. Surhoff deal. no thanks give me choco crisp or another young blood
It would be criminal to move for Floyd without giving Diaz a solid 2 month runout. Braves are 2-0 on Tuesday. I smell victory.
what about that Reggie Willits kid from the Angels?
hans will get the start in LF. ergh!
As much as I hate the DH, I always said that Cliff Floyd was in the wrong league.
Floyd would be a great left-handed pinch hitter, but I don't see him as an option for this team.
I'm usually a patient man, but I agree that we should be getting very close to the idea of giving Diaz the spot in LF.
Diaz: In 479 career PAs, he's 297/337/438, 775 ops. (18 career BBs)
Langer: In 473 career PAs, he's 245/339/383, 722 ops. (91 career BBs)
Diaz doesn't walk, but he can hit. Langy can't hit, but he does walk. Diaz is a bad LF, but he hasn't embarrassed himself so much this year.
I do expect Bobby will give Langer some time to get some hits, but I hope it's not too much time.
Oh hey, the game is on TBS tonight...
What's the news on Mike Gonzalez?
And KJ and BMac are both back in the lineup...also so is Langy.
good start KJ!
He's apparently fine, he pitched well last night.
With their deficit cut to three runs, the Braves realized their most promising event of the night via the scoreless eighth inning that Mike Gonzalez provided. Last week, his left elbow was providing some discomfort. But as his fastball was clocked in the mid-90's, the left-handed reliever showed indications that he's healthy.
"He threw as hard as he ever has," Cox said. "They didn't have any good swings on him."
Balk!
come on andruw...this is awful!
There we go Andruw, 1-0
good one!
Yeah, BMAC
Frenchy!!!
The Mighty Thor!!!
THOR!!
That's what I'm talking about.
what do you know, a langy K.
good thing we're getting to this kid early, Redman needs all the help he can get.
once again Langy shows his consistancy
Great start for Redman, let's see what he can do with it.
love to see thor/wilson come around..and langerhans continues to suck
Can we get a goose egg to start from Redman? C'mon, Mark.
i'll hold my breath
GD!
What's it going to take for Bobby to get rid of his platoon fetish? The batting Langerhans against right-handers clearly ain't working. Use Diaz everyday or better yet:
FREE BRANDON JONES!
You've got to love it when two pitchers with ERA above 8 match up.
i guess batting practice has started.
I guess Redman just can't handle prosperity either.
i'm not sure if i'll be able to endure this game.
I am totally onboard with Brandon Jones coming up and playing left and Salty coming up and playing first.
I hate Redman!
ill give cabrera long singles all game, or better yet just walk him. but he cant let ramirez/uggla get on base every damn time
Can we keep it at one run, please?
Tie game......
Redman....MUST DIE!!!!!!!
This is gonna be a long night.
Bloody hell.
WHATEVER!
how long ago did cabrera gain like 50 pounds
Bob Barker said it best in Happy Gilmore: "This guy sucks!"
rediculous
Wow. Just. Wow.
Cody Ross kills us, we should just hit him in the face again.
And remember, help control the pet population, spay and neuter you dogs and cats.
Slopman strikes again.
Didn't Redman give up 5 in the first against the Marlins last time? He can go in the same boat with Langy, at least he's consistent, consistently bad.
I don't know if I should cry or laugh. It was a four run lead, and it didn't even last one inning.
I wonder if Lerew is ready...
Redman and Davies must be sent down. Call up a long reliever and lets try Villareal and Cormier when he's ready
I'm sorry but villareal is nothing to write home about either
I can't tell who is worse, Langerhans or Redman...
Well, now both starting pitchers have an ERA above 10 for the year. What was the over/under on this game anyway -- 20 1/2, or something like that? It is time for Cormier. He's deserves a shot when he is ready based on the spring he had. I will not be able to watch this whole game without sticking a fork in my eye.
So any predictions for the final score? I figure we're looking at probably 15 to 12 us before both starters are out and a final score of 21-18.
ok better question, who is worse, Redman or Vanden Hurk?
james, it would be close if both had equal touches, but you have to give Redman the edge just because he serve up so many meatballs.
let's hope Redman is hooked before Vanden Hurk
man, this guy only got out of the first inning because langy sucks terribly
at least redman got on base unlike langer
that was between Hans and Redman
Looks like this one will come down to whoever manages to suck a little less
We need a touchdown.
a walk off touchdown would be nice
Crap. The Marlins might have won the game by taking that kid out. I bet Redman just gives up runs in spurts now and stays in till at least the fourth.
NO! LEAVE VANDEN HURK IN!
comon chipper hit a birthday grand salami
IT'S AAA PITCHING NIGHT AT DOLPHIN STADIUM! THE FIRST 1,000 FANS GET A BUDDY HERNANDEZ BOBBLEHEAD DOLL PRESENTED BY DELTA!
Okay, I have to open in the morning so I have to be in bed by 10:30 at the latest. (Yes, I'm old.) Anyway, I have no confidence we're going to get this game in in under 4 1/2 hours.
watch, this kid is gonna go 4 innings of shut out ball
Give Fredi credit for being proactive and getting Vanden Hurk out of there, since anyone else couldn't have done any worse. Hope Cox comes to the same conclusion on Redman.
If Andruw had connected on that first swing he hits that ball to Fort Myers
back-to-back flyouts....Redman looks as confused as Cory Patterson did last night.
even on base redman finds a way to hurt us, that's a gift!
I'm listening on radio and I hate the Marlins announcers.
Also, Chipper . . . Andruw . . . c'mon . . .
Come on Brian....there we go....walked in a run.
atta boy
FRENCHY!!!! I LOVE THAT GUY.
Good Lord Francoeur sucks, somebody trade him for Cliff Floyd!
we have the lead...and more.
This Frenchy guy might be a keeper. we'll see
OK, I'll take a field goal.
At least Vanden Hurk had the excuse of never pitching above Single-A before this year. Looks like he will be booking a ticket back soon.
"even on base redman finds a way to hurt us, that's a gift!"
That's not fair. He got on base. Blame Chipper and Andruw for hitting weak pop-ups with the bases loaded.
Should have gotten more than two, but I'll take it. How bad would it have been if the Braves had scored no runs at all?
at least Langy gets to lead off next inning!!!!
1.5 innings of pain...time to turn it up a notch.
Just look at it this way, tomorrow we get to see good pitching.
atta boy Chip
nice play chipper
YES!!! NICE PLAY
Wow 87mph by Redman and a K
strike out machine!!
2 innings an hour, by this pace game will be over 11:30
shew!
Holy crap redman didn't give up the lead....what's next a langy hit.
It must suck to be as bad at your jobs as Redman and Langerhans and everyone getting to see it. Of course, they're well-compensated, but I'm surprised no baseball player yet has snapped and taken a talk show host hostage.
where is the Hans-o-meter?
will it read in the negative?
.059 now for langer
or i guess instead we'll need triple digits
REDMANIA!!!!!11111
LEADING OFF THIRD FOR BRAVES: RYAN LANGERHANS
LEADING OFF THIRD FOR MARLINS: MIGUEL CABRERA
WOO HOOOOOOO!
Langerhans is now 2-34 on the year. If he got hits in each of his next six AB, he would get to the Mendoza Line.
Since his last hit on April 11, he has reached base once by a walk and once by a HBP, while striking out nine times.
HoRam's line so far for the Mariners,
2 Games, 10innings 7 ER
Having Frenchy, Miguel Cabrera, Dan Uggla and Hanley Ramirez on the same fantasy team sure brings me a lot of points on nights like this.
We have 1-2 players every year struggle horrifically at the plate.
Langerhans still needs to be razed to the gorund and his plunder looted.
HOLY SH**! Mark Redman got Miguel Cabrera out.
let the beatings begin!
Cody Ross owns us like Oliver Perez
SON OF A B.....oh it was foul..well then...proceed with what you were doing.
I want to hurt Redman
burn redman now
woo hoo...another tie. I hate Mark Redman.
Redman makes me miss Albie Lopez
DEAR GOD! HOW CAN THE GUY BE THIS BAD?
Chippa!
just what our pen needs, leave this piece of .. out there until his arm falls off. I'll concead this one game as long as he never plays again
Thank goodness we've scored 6 or this one would be close to over.
Redman is a worse waste of Braves $$ than Albie Lopez.
this game is hilarious - i am loving every second of it
both teams should agree to let a position player pitch some this game - it couldnt get any worse
Fredi is proactive and pulls Vanden Hurk quickly and keeps his team in the game.
Meanwhile Bobby waits until he is a day late and dollar short and Redman blows another lead. Why is he still in exactly?
Through yesterday, Commando Cody Ross was hitting .356 .420 .644 against the Braves. Overall, he is a .230 .293 .431 hitter.
i think albie got $3.5 million to make 3 starts and ride the pine for the rest of the season, but your point is valid.
That's for his career; he's hitting better this year.
any reason as to why the Richmond stat sheets show McBride having 1 game start? By the way his numbers look a lot better there
I don't even think Shame Reynolds was this bad for us.
Mac, I gotta say it: Might you need to add Redman to the Latin motto at the top of the banner? I'm thinking that as bad as Langerhans is, I really dislike Redman more...
-Jeff M.
Uh-oh. Redman coming out means that the parade of the horribles are going to be troted out: Peter Moylan, Steve Coyler, Tyler Yates and maybe even Oscar Villarreal.
And if Langerhans is Carthage to the Braves' Rome, I'm fairly certain that Redman is at least a Barbarian in our midst...
-Jeff M.
A B-Day Double for Chipper...
If there's anything stupider than "good cut" on a pitch the hitter fouls back, I don't know what it is. Hey, I can swing and miss, it's nothing special.
I think Adam LaRoche might be a better starter than Mark Redman.
maybe Redman will have a strong second half like Huck
what a bum!
Vanden Hurk's first name is Henricus. Not that it matters much, just thought i'd mention it.
that had to hurt
Yea, it hurt. But I'm not sure it hurts as much as the vomit that comes up when I see Redman (and yes, apologies for sharing too much information).
-Jeff M.
Mark Lemke will apparently be on the radio for the Rockies series. I would rather listen to 9 Mark Redman pitched innings before I would listen to one pitch of "the Lemmer"'s call.
I know what's stupider than "good cut". How about, "base hit ball four".
Lemke is the master of drone.
one of the tbs guys just said macbride got a start the other night. what do you guys think?
was that gravy coming out of moylan's leg?
McBride still walks too many, even at Richmond. When he quits walking so many, he'll probably be fine as either a reliever or a starter (the stuff is there).
-Jeff M.
Langy, I grew up in Richmond. I'll be happy to let you know where all the good restaurants are.
McBride needs as many innings as possible as quickly as possible so he can get straightened out and back up here with the big team ASAP.
I don't know that his future is in starting, though.
I believe that was some of Australia's finest. He has to hide it somewhere from Wickman and Paronto.
I'll point out, as I have before, that Moylan was the best hitter in the league he played in in Australia. Australian baseball -- not very good.
Nice double play by Langerhans. He's near perfection at the plate continues.
poor Langerhans - its just painful to watch him bat. For some reason watching Redman suck is humorous to me, but watching Hans just hurts
maybe that's Austrailian for T-Ball
Moylan's slider is NASTY tonight
Moylan is fairly impressive when his stuff is working and he doesn't have to face any lefties.
I have a gut feeling there is going to be an announcement shortly after the game concerning Langerhans. Just call it a hunch.
What an arm by Manny, lol...Mark Mallory is laughing silently in a dark corner.
In other news, the Nets are beating the Raptors...both Carter and Kidd have double-doubles
78-74 in the 4th.
C'mon B-Mac.
Nice, BMAC gives back the lead.
Jeff, stop chasing it...
Did anyone else watching on TBS think that was a ball?...
That was not a strike.
I thought it looked a little outside...
Moylan walks the first batter on four straight determined to blow that newly-aquired one run lead.
Who is that commentating with Chip? (been a while since I've watched)
It's probably John Sciambi.
GREAT PLAY KJ!!!
Damn, Nets lost 89-83.
Carl Crawford, grand slam....I want to get him! :)
Rafael Soriano time, yessir!
mets and rockies are still scoreless in the top of the 10th
PLEASE HIT FOR LANGERHANS. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
FREDI IS A MORON.
They are intentionally walking Langerhans???
Langerhans intentionally walked. I'll be speechless for days.
Ryan commands respect in these situations.
I can't believe they don't want to pitch to Langerhans....
ORR!!!!
Breathing room
Yep. That's what happens when you IW a guy who was two-for-the-season.
Kelly!!
Orr!
Can we give some of these runs to the Rockies?
And all because they didn't have the brains to pitch to Langerhans--but we'll take it....
Another one. Well-placed hits tonight.
well, you'd better believe that if yo u walk langy, you're gonna have to pay for it.
RENTY!! I love this...
Will Bobby go to Wickman or go with Gonzo, since it's no longer a save situation.
I am glad Fredi isn't a member of the Braves organization anymore. Man, is he dumb.
Intentionally walking a guy who is two-for-2007 is one of those moves that ought to get you fired in the middle of the game.
I haven't read the comment yet, but Wickman was already warm, it was a one-run game with nobody on and two out, so he might as well pitch.
Pardon me while I de-lurk, but what on earth would possess anyone to walk Ryan Langerhans with two outs and an obvious pitch-hitter coming up next. Good lord that had to be one of the most mind-erasing decisions I've ever seen. Not that I'm sad about it ;-D
It will be especially nice to get a win when Redman pitches. Now, if the Mets can play a few more innings and then lose...
And we win. Nice!
Go Rockies.
Salty goes doubley deep tonight.
Too bad the Rockies couldn't help us tonight...
