Mets 7, Braves 2

ESPN.com - MLB - Box Score - Braves at Mets

This Oliver Perez thing is getting inexplicable. Against everyone else, he's basically useless, against us he's Johan Santana. The Braves got nine hits and two runs in 6 2/3 against him today, and that's the best we've done by far.

The big difference today was homers. The Mets hit three, one a two-run shot to make it 4-0, then two in the sixth, chasing Chuck James in one of his worst starts. Kali came in and gave up a walk and triple to make it 7-1 at the time and pretty much end the game.

The Braves did have ten hits, including two apiece by Renteria, Chipper, and Andruw. It's fairly rare that you have three guys have two hits (and a walk by Chipper) each in a row and only score two runs. McCann also had two hits, but Francoeur and KJ both had 0-fors; KJ had a walk, but struck out four times.

Moylan made his bid for the Kali job, going two scoreless innings in a lost cause to lower his ERA all the way to 9.00. Rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

What's wrong with Chuckie in day games? ERA well over 5. Maybe it's because fly balls carry more during the day?

Maybe... Or it's because he relies upon deception and you see the ball more clearly during the day, though the generally poor visibility at Shea would seem to counter that.

Did anyone actually see the game today? I just can't understand how Fox can black-out games that start 2 and 1/2 hours before their broadcast starts. They suck...

just another way to Brave man down.

I'm still amazed at how many lefties we faced so far, and we've got 3 more in the next 4 games. The plus has been keeping Diaz's bat in the line up. Hopefully the meatball down the center will not be on Smoltz's menu tomorrow.

Pena's really impressing in KC. Right now it looks like that deal was a pretty good one for them, even if they were laughed at at the time.

At this point, I want to make 3 points that are not what I expected at this time in the season.

1) Woodward looks to be a better pickup than Wilson. Hopefully Wilson will improve, but he's not impressing so far. Woodward has done well pinch hitting.

2) All the talk about the revamped bullpen hasn't really come to frution - except for Wickmania! Soriano's ERA is not good, Gonzalez has been injured and hasn't looked good. Again, hopefully this will change - I think it will.

3) The main reason that the Braves are better is that their starting rotation is better - especially Hudson. At this time last year we had HoRam and Sosa. I don't need to comment much further.
