Braves 7, Mets 3

ESPN.com - MLB - Box Score - Braves at Mets

Wow, is Tim Hudson on right now. He lowered his ERA to 0.62 with eight innings of shutout baseball, allowing five hits and two walks, striking out three, and getting lots and lots of ground balls. He took a perfect game to two out in the fourth and a no-hitter to the fifth.

Offensively, Chipper gave the Braves an early lead with a bomb off the scoreboard to score KJ. McCann hit a ground rule double to score Chipper in the third; Andruw would have scored if the ball stayed in the park, but came home anyway on a wild pitch. In the seventh, Francoeur walked with the bases loaded again, then Wilson pinch-hit for Thorman and did the same, and then Andruw scored on a wild pitch for the second time tonight.

Because nothing comes easy, Soriano gave up three runs in the ninth, including a two-run homer, the first multi-run homer that the Braves have allowed. He needed to work, but it was really a Kali situation.

All the Braves regulars had hits except for Thorman and Langerhans, who else, but even Langerhans had a walk that is only somewhat cheapened by it coming with runners second and third and Hudson on deck. I mean, Hudson had a hit tonight and is hitting .200, which is 135 points higher than Langerhans.

Day game tomorrow on, I think, the former Turner South. I have no idea why. Of course, it isn't on Fox because they're covering the Greatest Rivalry In All Time And Space.

the first multi-run homer that the Braves have allowed.

Wow, I didn't realize that. That's pretty amazing.

Rivalry...hmm. Wouldn't that be a better description if it wasn't like 64 to 1 in terms of World Championships?
And being in the Midwest, I could care less about the Red Sox and Spankees. I'm closer to Atlanta than Boston. Show us the Braves!

Awsome game. Hudson is really doing a great job this season. There were a couple plays that I'm pretty sure Furcal would have been able to make that Renteria and his slow self couldn't (an infield grounder to the left side that Renty fielded but couldn't make a play on and one up the middle that he just barely missed), but even with that Huddy managed to post a very good line.

BTW, is everyone ready to say that KJ at 2B was clearly the right choice yet? OBP over .400, and his BA is now .283. And aside from that horrid, horrid throw in the 9th, his defense has been pretty darn good.

As for the Yanks/Saux series, my only comment is that I can't wait for people to start ragging on ARod for "choaking" in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on. 'Cause you know it's going to happen. :-)

Yeah, KJ made a really nice play in the 5th on that bases-loaded ball up the middle by Reyes. I've been very impressed. And I think Joe Simpson wants to kiss him on the mouth.

"Larry! Larry! Larry!"

Ka-boom! Larry this, y'all...

Went to the game tonight & I gotta say that of all the Braves-Mets games I've ever seen at Shea, few things have ever sent me into fits of laughter quite like Chipper's first-inning, first-pitch blast.

Fact is, I'm still laughing.

A fine evening, to be sure. And, yes, Hudson was awesome.

ububba, that must be sweet to hear that series of events at Shea Stadium in person.

Go Braves.

Andruw scored on a wild pitch twice in one game. Isn't that some kind of record?
I know that one at bat seldom means anything in the Big Scheme of things, but you gotta love Chipper's HR. Made my day.

I know Bobby is a very loyal guy, but langerhans is the opposite of locked in, he needs to sit or go down, its sad to say but, if the braves are gonna make a serious run, they neeeeeeeeeeeeed to get a corner outfielder and a first baseman with some pop

I was reading about Joey Devine (pitched very poorly last night) and noticed Brandon Jones is hitting well at Pearl. Couldn't help but wonder if a AA prospect couldn't do better than the 1-for-the-season effort that Langerhans is currently delivering.
